Creating advertisements to target particular publics involves using a variety of strategies that will grab that attention of viewers and listeners. Things such as relateable content or surprising humour to make an impression often leave viewers interested in the product or thinking about it long after the advertisement is over.
In the case of Hush Puppies targeting Australian clientele, using typical Asutlaian dogs to play on the playfulness of Australia and the product itself makes the advertisement more relatable and more special.
For example, using the slogan “So good everyone will want a pair”.
Include a shot of the typical family wearing hushpuppies being friendly and happy and have the family Australian dog run off with the child’s Hush Puppie shoes. This would include the message that hushpuppies are so good that everyone will want a pair. They are loveable, comfortable and most importantly, for everybody.
Another example may be “Live life off the leash”.
This would be playing on the pun of dogs on leashes and by having Hush Puppies you are being reckless and wild. Include shots of the puppies being wild (maybe impersonating a stereotypical genre of people such as riding motorbikes or being cheeky) to make the advertisement look like the dogs want these shoes because they are mischievous and not bound by the leash of life.
These atypical advertisements are out of the box thinking and make people think of these ads after they are over and therefore push the sales of these products further than just saying "buy this product".
